about their lineage, and this is what he said: "Olympus voice recorder and external AIWA-mic is all I ever got from
him. No idea as to the difference in quality between the last part and those preceding it."

Audioarchivist notes:
The show came to me
in four parts. Three of them were 24 bit 48 khz files, while the encore section was a 16 bit 48 khz file. Upon deeper
investigation, I discovered that the three 24 48 files that made up the main part of the show had a frequency cutoff at
12000 hz, while the last file had audio all the way up the frequency spectrum to over 20000 hz. I can only conclude that
either the taper set his recorder to a 24 khz sample rate in the show instead of 44.1 khz or 48 khz or 96 khz, and
upsampled them later, or he made a mistake when he rendered the 4 parts of the show from his original master files...
So, not sure what went on there, but I managed to hide this small flaw and improve the listening experience.

I first pulled the files into iZotope RX Advanced 3 to declick the heaviest clapping, and to take away a few screamers
and whistlers that I thought got in the way. Once the submaster files were cleaned up of audient interferences, I pulled
them into Wavelab 5.01b to master and edit them. My plug-in chain was as follows:

I first used
Steinberg's Spectralizer to put some audio information in the ultra high frequency range that was missing. It reads
the information in the lower frequency areas and upsamples them somehow - hard to describe! I tried to set it up to
re-introduce some of the air around the cymbals without being overwhelming. I used the "Q" plug-in to smooth
out a spike in the middle low range while deepening the guts of bass as well as brightening the brilliance of the
guitars and mellowing the sizzle in the highs. As the master files were nearly mono (but not quite) I used
Stereoexpander to widen the original stereo field by 50%, and then used SHEPPi Stereo Spatial Enhancer to create a
natural sounding artificial ambience. From there, the signal went through the D82 BBE Sonic Maximizer to generally beef
up and smooth out the lows and highs and everything in between. Peak Master caught any stray peaks so no clipping
occurred.

I disabled the spectralizer for the 4th file with the encore, as it didn't need the process.
The high frequencies exist naturally in this part of the recording. There is some small super high "blips"
that you might hear if you have dog hearing! I believe that the possible voice recorder used to capture this show made
some small audio interference each time it saved a block of data. They are very short bursts of this small sound in a
band around 20000 hz or so. I really doubt that you'll hear them, though...

I split the files on full
second marks with no fractions in each of the 4 sections of the show. When downsampled and dithered to 16 bit 44.1 khz
FLAC files, the last file of each portion of the show has some zero bytes of padding added to them to correct the
SBE's from the poorly chopped up master files. Downsampled to 24 bit 44.1 khz files with SoX resampler via
Foobar2000 and dithered to 16 bit 44.` khz with iZotope RX Advanced 3 MBit+...

I did try and undo some of the
obvious auto gain compression that the recorder made, but I couldn't find any results that I found to work that
didn't require days of manual labour! Even with the minor amount of dynamic compression that this recorder's
auto gain added, it still has a decent amount of dynamic range! The loudest clapping may sound strange to you, as the
loudest and closest clappers to the taper that make the recorder's auto gain kick in and briefly lower the record
level. I removed these extra loud claps that were too sharp and shocking and clipping inducing, but the
"holes" from the recorder's auto gain level drops in the clapping remain... Clap along when you listen!
Haha!

While doing some research for this show, I found some video from this show on an obscure site. It took
much wrangling, but I managed to capture and save the videos. I believe they might even be from the audio taper of the
show! Since the videos aren't very large, and the site they were on is so hard to sign up to view them (or find
them! I was super lucky to find them by accident that when I tried to search for them I could not find them...), I have
decided to include them as bonus material. Think of them as a few photos from the show, but they move and make some
sound, too! haha! There's 3 songs: Epitaph, Starless, and 21CSM. Not super high quality or anything, and not very
large. Feel free to skip them in your torrent program when you're downloading if you don't want them, okay?
They're just a little something extra...

Speaking of photos, I found several sources of pictures that
are from this show, and have included them in the photos folder. I made a bit of cover art from some of them and a
ticket photo, so my audio players' album art windows don't look so naked when playing this show. Some folks
still burn CD-r's of concerts and make full CD case art! If you do that, please get in touch, and share your art
