Based on the novel by David Baldacci, Absolute Power is about the ruthlessness of people in power. The President
believes that everything he does is beyond reproach, including an affair or two. That leads to murder and everyone
around him is involved. There is only one witness, a thief named Luther Whitney. They are sure he'll talk, but when? The
Secret Service is determined to keep him quiet, but catching a thief isn't always easy.

Luther Whitney, ladro professionista, si introduce nella residenza di Walter Sullivan, un anziano filantropo
considerato uno degli uomini più ricchi e potenti degli Stati Uniti, per svuotargli il caveau. Durante il furto,
mentre si trova all'interno della camera blindata (celata da un falso specchio nella stanza da letto di Sullivan),
Luther, senza essere visto, assiste all'omicidio della moglie di Sullivan, commesso ad opera delle guardie del corpo del
Presidente degli Stati Uniti d'America - e membri dei Servizi Segreti: l'incontro clandestino tra il Presidente Alan
Richmond e la signora Sullivan, degenerato a causa del comportamento violento di lui, si conclude infatti con
l'intervento degli agenti che sono costretti a sparare alla donna per evitare che questa uccida il Presidente con un
tagliacarte. Sempre nascosto nel caveau, Luther assiste quindi alle operazioni organizzate da Gloria Russell, assistente
personale del Presidente, e dagli agenti Bill Burton e Tim Collin, per eliminare ogni prova che possa ricondurre alla
verità. La scena del delitto viene accuratamente ripulita e rimessa in ordine, e il Presidente viene condotto via
dagli agenti, i quali dimenticano però accidentalmente il tagliacarte con cui Mrs. Sullivan ha ferito il Presidente a
un braccio, rimasto nella stanza da letto di Sullivan. Luther si impadronisce dell'arma e scappa dalla residenza,
inseguito da Burton e Collin, che nel frattempo si sono accorti di non aver trattenuto il tagliacarte. Luther diviene
così un testimone scomodo da eliminare.
