Pete Sandich, un abile e spericolato pilota d'aereo addetto allo spegnimento degli incendi nelle foreste, non è disposto a smettere di volare come vorrebbe Dorinda Durston,
la sua fidanzata. La donna è in apprensione ed i suoi timori si rivelano giustificati quando, durante una missione molto rischiosa, per salvare Al Yachey, un suo amico, Pete muore.
Dopo aver incontrato l'eterea Hap in un paradisiaco giardino del cielo, Pete accetta di trasmettere, come "angelo custode", la sua esperienza a Ted Baker,
