ANDREA CAMILLERI is the author of many books, including his Montalbano series, which has been adapted for Italian
television and translated into German, 
French, Spanish, Portuguese, Greek, Japanese, Dutch, Swedish, and finally,
English. He was born at Porto Empedocle, near Agrigento. His style is very 
particular as he mixes Italian and
local dialect without however making it unreadable for those who are not from that part of Italy. Camilleri has won 
numerous homestigious literary awards in Italy as well as in France. He is married with three children and four
grandchildren, and lives in Rome.

Inspector Montalbano Series

1. The Shape of Water (2002)



When a local politician is found dead in his car, half naked, in a seedy neighborhood known for prostitution
and drug trafficking, 
it's assumed that he died of natural causes in the middle of a sexual escapade. Hoping to
avoid an embarrassing situation, 
Montalbano's superiors expect him to close the case quickly. But the inspector
senses that not all is as it seems and 
determinedly launches a full investigation.

2. The Terra-Cotta
Dog (2002)
 

In sunny
Sicily, in a small coastal town, Inspector Salvo Montalbano is juggling an assortment of puzzling cases. 
His old
school friend, now a pimp, has, for some mysterious reason, arranged a meeting between Salvo and a crime boss; 
a
local supermarket is broken into and looted, yet the goods are found abandoned at a gas station the next day; 
a
elderly man dies in a single-car accident after telling Montalbano he has information for him; the body of a stranger

is found in a car trunk.

3. The Snack Thief (2003)
 

When an elderly
man is stabbed to death in an elevator and a crewman on an Italian fishing trawler is machine-gunned by 
a Tunisian
patrol boat off Sicily's coast, only Montalbano suspects the link between the two incidents. His investigation 
leads to the beautiful Karima, an impoverished housecleaner and sometime prostitute

4. Voice of the Violin
(2003)
 

In this
latest novel, Montalbano's gruesome discovery of a lovely, naked young woman suffocated in her bed immedi-ately sets 
him on a search for her killer. Among the suspects are her aging husband, a famous doctor; a shy admirer, now
disappeared; 
an antiques-dealing lover from Bologna; and the victim's friend Anna, whose charms Montalbano cannot
help but appreciate. 
But it is a mysterious, reclusive violinist who holds the key to this murder.

5.
The Excursion To Tindari (2005)
 

In two
seemingly unrelated crimes, a young Don Juan is found murdered and an elderly couple is reported missing after an 
excursion to the ancient site of Tindari. As Montalbano works to solve both cases, he stumbles onto Sicily's ghastly
"new age" 
of brutal and anonymous criminality.

6. The Smell of the Night (2005) aka The Scent
of the Night
 

Half the
retirees in Vig'ata have invested their savings with a financial wizard who has disappeared, along with their money. 
As Montalbano investigates this labyrinthine financial scam, he finds himself at a serious disadvantage: a hostile

family's beach rental, Montalbano,

spends the summer trying to solve this perplexing case, 
Livia refuses to answer his calls - and Montalbano is left
to take a plunge that will affect the rest of his life.

13. The Potter's Field (2011)
 

In this latest installment, an unidentified corpse is found near Vig?ta, a town known for its soil rich with
potter's clay. Meanwhile, 
a woman reports the disappearance of her husband, a Colombian man with Sicilian origins
who turns out to be related to a local mobster. 
Then Inspector Montalbano remembers the story from the
Bible-Judas's betrayal, the act of remorse, and the money for the potter's field, 
where those of unknown or
foreign origin are to be buried-and slowly, through myriad betrayals, finds his way to the solution to the crime.

14. The Age of Doubt (2012)
 

The day after a
storm, Inspector Montalbano encounters a strange woman who expresses interest in a certain yacht scheduled to dock that

afternoon. Not long after she's gone, the yacht's crew reports finding a disfigured corpse. Also at anchor is a
luxury vessel with a 
somewhat shady crew. Both boats will have to stay in Vig?ta until the investigation is over
and, based on information from the woman, 
Montalbano begins to think the occupants of the yacht might know more
about the man's death than they're letting on.

15 The Dance of the Seagull (2013)



Before leaving for vacation with Livia, Montalbano witnesses a seagull doing an odd dance on the beach
outside his home, when the bird 
suddenly drops dead. Stopping in at his office for a quick check before heading
off, he notices that Fazio is nowhere to be found and 
soon learns that he was last seen on the docks, secretly
working on a case. Montalbano sets out to find him and discovers that the seagull's 
dance of death may provide the
key to understanding a macabre world of sadism, extortion, and murder.

16 Treasure Hunt (2013)
 

In Treasure Hunt Inspector Montalbano is hailed as a hero after news cameras film him scaling a building, gun in hand,
to capture a pair of 
unlikely snipers. Shortly thereafter the inspector begins to receive cryptic messages in
verse from someone challenging him to a treasure hunt. 
Intrigued, he accepts, treating the messages as amusing
riddles until they take a dangerous turn.
