Almost all Chinese punk bands besides Brain Failure



Another Idea (3 miscellaneous tracks) – One of the few Chinese punk bands to sing in Chinese. Personally I feel
there are too many tempo changes in the songs but other than that decent fast paced punk.

BB Bomb (2005 EP) – Poppy all girl punk band, not really my cup of tea but here it is anyway.

Demerit (Demo CD) This band that would fit in well alongside the Casualties or other Punkcore bands however the lead
guitarist is a bit more skilled than what’s common for the style.

Discord (Demo CD) – UK ’82 style punk

Joyside (Bitches of Rock n Roll Mini CD and Drunk is Beautiful CD) – My personal favorite Chinese band. If the
Dead Boys, Iggy and the Stooges, and the New York Dolls were all fused into one band, living in modern day China, and
singing in Chingrish this is what they would sound like. While their recorded music is good it does a fall a bit short
of capturing the experience of their live set. “Drunk is Beaufiful” is relatively Ramonesesque while
“Bitches of Rock n Roll” shows them developing as a band with better lyrics and song writing.

The K (Dream Keepers) – Ska punk band whose influences include Rancid, Tim Armstrong and the Aggrolites, Operation
Ivy, and the Transplants. Nice guys but it would be cool to see a bit of originality!

Life For Drinking (Demo) – Oi!/Ska band that had a lot of potential if they were to be able to stick it out but
they fell apart a year ago.

Misandao (Proud of the Way CD) – China’s first and longest running Oi! band. Very standard and simple Oi!
but great guys who do a lot for the local scene including helping foreign bands tour China and setting up an annual punk
festival.

Point Blank (Made in China CD and Right Here, Right Now Mini CD) – This was my band that recently broke up. Very
international with three Chinese guys, a French singer, and me (American) on rhythm guitar. Its hard to describe your
own music but we definitely had a heavier Oi!/Punk sound. Maybe Discipline would be a good comparison.

The Scoff (demo CD) – 70’s punk band with a Chinese guy singing who lived in the UK for a while and speaks
perfect English. Think Buzzcocks with a bit more of a rock n roll sound.

SMZB (50,000 CD and Scream For Life CD) – Long running band from Wuhan that went from a fast and noisy punk band
to being influenced solely by the Dropkick Murphies.

Squawk (Demo) – Hong Kong punk played fast and noisily!

Subs (Down EP)– Not really my jam, I think they are heavily influenced by Indy rock, but I really don’t
know.

Unsafe (Totally Unsafe CD) – Great band playing pure punk rock. Reminds me of Blitz, Rancid, and GBH.

VA – Wu Liao Contingent double CD compilation – As far as I know this is the first recording that was
released of Beijing Punk. Four bands: Brain Failure, A Boys, ……and ….. Despite me actually ripping
this my self from the original CD I have no idea which tracks belong to which bands. The insert is a mess and I cant
sort it out!

VA – Forming – Pogo and Stomping in the Christmas – Live Compilation recorded Xmas eve 2005 with
Misandao, Demerit, Regular Pattern,

Unsafe.
