In keeping with recent trends of my uploads from Scandinavian Late Romantics and female composers, it's one of each this week.
Doreen Carwithen, who later went by the name Mary Alwyn (she married William, but have no fear that I am turning into an atonal fan. She was far less modernist and fond of dissonance than her older husband), composed for films and concert halls alike. Not a huge output of the latter for orchestra, but this collection is very worthwhile. I am particularly fond of her piano concerto. Just enough stylistic touches to place it firmly in the 20th Century but without the outre weirdness and forced academic obscurantism that made much of her contemporaries' output a musicological chore rather than an aesthetic pleasure to listen to.
