Auberge (a French word meaning
"inn") is an album by Chris Rea, released in 1991. The album as well as the title song was mostly notable for the
association of the Caterham Super Seven that he owned, in which he called it the "Blue Seven". That car appeared on the
album cover, illustrated in oil by renowned motoring artist Alan Fearnley. The album makes several reference to the car
over several tracks, as well on the video of the title song and its cover illustration was used for its adverts. In
2005, Rea sold his car in an auction. Auberge was a #1 album in the UK in 1991. The title track also gave Rea one of his
biggest chart hits, reaching #16 in the UK charts. The greatest hits have become the tracks: "You My Love", Looking for
the Summer", and "Auberge".


Biografia Breve

Figlio di immigrati italiani che possedevano un chiosco di gelati, Chris cominciò a cantare e suonare la chitarra
all'inizio degli anni settanta in una band chiamata Magdalene, che vince un importante concorso nazionale nel 1975,
senza però ottenere un contratto.
L'Italo-britannico Chris Rea è sposato da 30 anni con Joan ed ha due
figlie.
Negli anni ottanta ottenne fama internazionale grazie ai successi Fool (If You Think It's Over), On the
Beach, Josephine, Looking for the summer, Julia, Auberge e Road to hell. Prima del grande successo di Josephine, grazie
ad una versione remix realizzata nel 1987, altri due suoi brani furono ballatissimi sulle piste delle discoteche nel
1983: Let it loose e I can hear your heartbeat.
Nel 2002, dopo essere sopravvissuto ad un tumore maligno, Rea è
tornato alla musica delle sue radici: il jazz-blues.

Carriera:

Inizialmente si lanciò musicalmente con il nome "Benny
Santini" e fece parte della Band Magdalene. In seguito Rea lasciò la band e, dopo l'esordio solista di Tennis (1980),
pubblicò l'album Whatever Happened to Benny Santini (che entrò nella Top 20 statunitense), usando da allora il suo
nome Chris Rea. In Europa ottenne risultati altalenanti, e meditò più di una volta sull'opportunità di lasciare
le scene, ma arrivò a vendere, nel corso della sua carriera, circa 30 milioni di dischi, pubblicando 18 album. Tra
questi New Light Through Old Windows (1988) e The Road to Hell (1989), salutato da pubblico e critica come il suo
miglior album. Ha avuto successo anche Auberge (1991), cui sono seguiti altri album, tra cui Expresso Logic (1994) e The
Best of Chris Rea (1995), che però non hanno scalato le classifiche come i precedenti.

Nonostante seri
problemi di salute, nel 2000 pubblicò King of the Beach. Dopo Stony Road, nel 2005 fece Blue Guitars, raccolta di
undici album ad oggi inediti - per un totale di 137 canzoni - ed un DVD, abbinati ad un libro illustrato dallo stesso
musicista italo-inglese. Nel 2008 è stata pubblicata la sua ultima produzione: l'album The Return of Fabulous Hofner
