A day in the lives of two convenience clerks named Dante and Randal as they annoy customers, discuss movies, and play hockey on the store roof.
Clerks is a 1994 film written and directed by Kevin Smith, who also appears in the film as Silent Bob. Starring Brian O'Halloran as Dante Hicks and Jeff Anderson as Randal Graves, it presents a day in the lives of two store clerks and their acquaintances. Clerks was the first of Smith's View Askewniverse films and the only one to date to be shot entirely in black and white. It introduces several characters, notably Jay and Silent Bob, who reappear in his later works, including Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Clerks II.

La pellicola racconta le vicende di una intera giornata di un commesso di alimentari nella periferia americana, Dante Hicks, costretto a recarsi al lavoro nel suo giorno di riposo.
Tra dialoghi contorti e surreali, scenette divertenti e grottesche (memorabile la polemica sulla posizione politica dei subappaltatori che stavano costruendo la seconda Morte Nera di Guerre stellari e la scena del signore anziano che chiede di utilizzare il bagno), la giornata di Dante passa di guaio in guaio, peggiorando sempre più.
Insieme a Dante ci sarà a fargli compagnia Randal, il ragazzo che lavora al videonoleggio accanto all'alimentari, perennemente in pausa.
È stato girato anche un finale alternativo, visibile insieme ad altre scene tagliate sul sito della casa di produzione View Askew.
