  Alle prese con una tesi di fisica che vuole dimostrare l'esistenza di dimensioni parallele,lo
studente Walter (Ezra Godden) decide di affittare una camera ad Arkham, nel New England, con la speranza di trovare la
quiete adatta a concentrarsi sul suo lavoro. Appena messo piede nella nuova stanza, la vita non sarà più la
stessa: un ratto con la faccia umana e una vecchia strega tortureranno i suoi sogni e metteranno in pericolo l'esistenza
della vicina di casa e del suo figlioletto. .......
  
  Stuart Gordon ritorna a sfruttare la letteratura
fantastica di H. P. Lovecraft, come aveva già fatto in passato (Re-animator, From beyond, Dagon). Anche stavolta la
storia ha inizio con un ricercatore universitario, che qui ha la stoffa di un bravo ragazzo, buono e diligente, che mai
farebbe del male a qualcuno. 
   Qui non ci sono strade da percorrere, tutto avviene tra le pareti di una casa
stregata, mura che contengono ossa di bambini, libri incantati e un ratto malefico, dai denti aguzzi e dalla mente
perversa. Quando Walter si addormenta, cominciano gli incubi. Non banali sogni ma viaggi reali all'interno di un mondo
irreale, fatto di magie, tentazioni sessuali e crimini terribili. La sete di sangue di una strega millenaria è il
motore della vicenda: ha bisogno di un essere umano che uccida con un coltello un bambino per farne un sacrificio
