De 12-jarige Marius Vallois komt uit een welgestelde familie en is de zoon van Marie Vallois, een succesvolle directrice. Marie houdt onvoorwaardelijk veel van haar zoon, maar Marius heeft zijn vader nooit gekend en lijdt daar erg onder. Wanneer Marius begint te stelen en slechte cijfers haalt op school, besluit Marie op zoek te gaan naar een vaderfiguur voor Marius. Op een dag ontmoet ze op kantoor Robert, een eigenaardige man met een achtergrond in financiën. Marie geeft Robert geld om zich voor te doen als de vader van Marius, maar Marius trapt daar niet in. Er ontstaat echter wel heel snel een sterke band tussen de twee.

Marius, 12, has not seen his father for years and he misses him badly. Marie, his mother, a workaholic firm manager, knows that she will never reconcile with her ex-husband. She must do something to address her son's frustration but what to do ? She finally has the preposterous idea to hire Robert Pique, an unemployed man, to play the role of Marius's father. His job will consist in putting the boy off his alleged dad. Of course, the scheme sucks and nothing will go according to plan...
