La storia è abbastanza semplice: Zick, un ragazzino chiuso e timido che soffre di un imprecisato numero di allergie, che spesso usa per tenere lontani i suoi coetanei, stringe una forte amicizia con Elena Patata, appena arrivata in città .
A questo punto la narrazione procede su due piani differenti, che però sono destinati più volte ad intrecciarsi. Da un lato il rapporto con Elena si rafforza, non senza apportare giovamenti anche al rapporto di Zick con gli altri ragazzi, soprattutto con David McMackamack ed Annie Van Mousse, detta Ragnetto, che diventano due grandi amici della coppia di protagonisti. Dall'altro c'è la lotta di Zick, aiutato sempre da Elena, contro i mostri malvagi, detti Monster-ska, che, allontanati da Bibbur-Si, la città sospesa, cercano di conquistare il mondo degli umani e anche quello dei mostri.
