This is an improved transfer of the previous upload. A different pickup cartridge and needle - in addition to moderate noise reduction - have contributed to a better-sounding result. Nielsen's great Theme with Variations, Op. 40, brilliantly performed by Elisabeth Westenholz, is also included this time around.

In the late 1960s, Ogdon made what is still considered a ground-breaking recording - selected piano music of Carl Nielsen. To the best of my knowledge (and I'd like to be incorrect in my assumption), this album has never be re-released. I've often considered this to be a very unfortunate situation.
This album is a good candidate for containing some of the most insightful Nielsen playing - before or since the late 1960s. Ogdon exhibits a profound - almost unrivalled - understanding of this music.
LP transfer from material issued 1968 (RCA); digital material originally issued 1980.
