Sex and the City is an American cable television series. The original run of the show was broadcast on HBO from 1998
until 2004, for a total of six seasons.



Set in New York City, the show focused on four women, three in their mid-thirties and one in her forties. The quirky
drama/comedy had multiple continuing story lines and tackled socially relevant issues such as sexually transmitted
diseases, safe sex, multiple partners, and promiscuity. It specifically examined the lives of big-city professional
women in the late 1990s and how changing roles and expectations for women affected the characters.



The show was primarily filmed at New York City's Silvercup Studios and on location in and around Manhattan. Since it
ended, the show has been aired in syndication on networks such as TBS, WGN, and many other local stations. However,
basic cable outlets edit out certain explicit show content that was broadcast in the original version.

La serie racconta la vita amorosa e l'amicizia tra quattro donne single, Carrie, anche voce narrante, Charlotte, Miranda
e Samantha. Miranda, avvocato di successo, si innamora di Steve, con il quale vive una storia d'amore fatta di alti e
bassi, causati da differenti stili di vita; i due si sposano al termine della sesta stagione dopo aver avuto un figlio
insieme. Charlotte, la romantica del gruppo, è una gallerista in cerca del grande amore; crede di trovarlo in Trey,
medico di successo afflitto inizialmente da problemi di impotenza, ma i due si lasciano perché l'uomo, dopo aver
risolto i suoi problemi di impotenza, le rivela di non essere interessato ad avere un figlio. Così Charlotte si
risposa con il suo avvocato divorzista, Harry, insieme al quale adotta una bambina cinese. Samantha, il personaggio
più trasgressivo, intreccia numerose relazioni sentimentali o esclusivamente sessuali nel corso delle varie stagioni:
si innamora di James, che però ha il pene troppo piccolo; si mette con una donna, Maria, che però è troppo
gelosa dei suoi ex; si fidanza con il magnate alberghiero Richard, che però la tradisce. Al termine della serie, dopo
aver sconfitto un cancro al seno, stabilisce una relazione stabile con Smith, attore teatrale molto più giovane di
lei. Carrie vive una storia d'amore con Mister Big (del quale si conoscerà il vero nome, John, solo nell'ultima
puntata della sesta serie), che si protrae nel corso delle varie stagioni anche se i due si lasciano varie volte per
motivi diversi; nel frattempo Carrie intreccia altre relazioni, alcune più stabili: quelle con Aidan, designer, con
Jack, scrittore, e con Aleksandr, artista russo. Proprio quest'ultimo la convince a trasferirsi a Parigi, ma al termine
della sesta stagione Big la raggiunge e la riporta con sé a New York nell'ultima puntata della serie. Quest'ultimo
è solo uno dei tre finali girati: anche negli altri due Carrie tornava a New York, ma in uno con Petrovsky,
nell'altro da sola, dopo aver lasciato Big definitivamente.[6]
