"Sin City" is infested with criminals, crooked cops and sexy dames, some searching for vengeance, some for redemption
and others, both. The film incorporates storylines from three of Miller's graphic novels including 'Sin City,' which
launched the long-running, critically acclaimed series, as well as 'That Yellow Bastard' and 'The Big Fat Kill.' Where
Hartigan, a cop with a bum ticker and a vow to protect stripper Nancy. Marv, the outcast misanthrope, is on a mission to
avenge the death of his one true love, Goldie; there's also Dwight, the clandestine love of Shelley who spends his
nights defending Gail and her Old Towne girls from Jackie Boy, a dirty cop with a penchant for violence.

Un altro film tratto da un fumetto: si consolida così l'uso di portare sul grande schermo gli
eroi "di carta" anche se con esiti molto differenti tra loro, basti pensare agli ultimi Daredevil, Constantine o il
tanto amato Spiderman. "Sin City", la città del peccato nata dalla fantasia di Frank Miller (per la prima volta anche
in veste di regista cinematografico) è il luogo oscuro in cui bene e male si fondono e si combattono, un far west
postmoderno abitato da poliziotti corrotti, prostitute bellissime e agguerrite, malavitosi, ed eroi dagli ideali puri e
irrealizzabili. Le atmosfere ricreate sono dirette discendenti dei noir anni 40, così come i personaggi, le cui
interpretazioni sono curate da un cast d'eccezione: Bruce Willis(Hartigan), Mickey Rourke (Marv), Benicio Del
Toro(Jackie Boy) solo per ricordarne alcuni.
L'impareggiabile uso di un bianco e nero nitido e perfetto anima il
disegno di Miller portandolo fuori dalle pagine degli albi e infondendogli la vita; l'uso parziale del colore richiama
l'attenzione su alcuni particolari e simboli come da tempo non si usava più al cinema. Il film risulta un piacere per
lo sguardo, una prova ottima per Rodriguez che oltre ad essere co-regista, cura il montaggio, le riprese, le musiche e
supervisiona gli effetti visivi. Il film emoziona e colpisce già dal prologo e per tutta la sua durata, oltre due
ore, tiene alta l'attenzione raccontando tre delle tante storie disegnate da Miller ( "Quel bastardo giallo","The Hard
Goodbay" e "Un abbuffata di morte").
