Deze miniserie is een verhaal over liefde, verraad en bedrog, in een tijd waarin de geliefde van gisteren de vijand van
morgen kon zijn.



In dit verhaal vol intrige en passie volgen we de avonturen van de uitgekookte Angelica Fanshawe. Ze maakt handig
gebruik van de crisis waarin het land verkeert om haar eigen positie te verbeteren. Terwijl Engeland wordt geteisterd
door een burgeroorlog, keert Angela zich tegen het Engelse vorstenhuis, als haar jeugdliefde en eerste man, Harry
Fanshawe, wordt geëxecuteerd. Ze raakt aan lager wal als ze volkomen berooid achterblijft, en in haar strijd om te
overleven begaat ze zelfs een moord.



Het geluk lacht haar weer toe als ze kennis maakt met Oliver Cromwell en trouwt met zijn beste vriend, de heldhaftige
revolutionair Rainsborough, een man die ze aanbidt. Als Cromwell aan de macht komt als Lord Protector, wordt Angelica
zijn vertrouweling. Maar als Cromwell haar man vermoordt omdat hij Lord Protector wil blijven, wordt ze geconfronteerd
met haar gedrag en moet ze de gevolgen onder ogen te zien.
