Synopsis: Recently released from prison, nice guy Dave Collins finds himself unwillingly mixed up with his old outlaw acquaintances Turk Thorne and his gang as they try to use his telegraphy talents to zero in on the arrival of a gold shipment on the local train. Taking a liking to Collins, cowboys Tim Holt and Chito Rafferty get him to agree to help set a trap for the train robbers. (imdb.com)

Personal Notes:

There's audio fluctuation and noise mostly in the beginning credits, then occasionally throughout the movie. The focus isn't as sharp as previous uploads, but the movie looks good on my SD TV. I've run the film through a few filters to correct brightness and contrast, and overall I'm very happy with the results.

There's action and suspense, a sweet blossoming romance, the beautiful Joan Dixon as our female co-star and the very handsome Ross Elliott.

Joan Dixon was born in Norfolk, Virginia and at the young age of twenty signed with RKO and Howard Hughes. Hughes was drawn to her dark, sultry looks and had high hopes for another Jane Russell. According to a Richard Martin interview, Dixon was uncomfortable on set, not untalented as much as untrained, while those on set and in the film industry wouldn't give her much respect since she was one of the Hughes girls. Tim Holt felt sorry for her, working with Ms. Dixon throughout their five films together, helping her with dialog and self-confidence. By their final film together, Dessert Passage, you will see an actress who is full of promise. However, late 1952 Joan marries Theodore S. "Ted" Briskin, Betty Hutton's former husband, sidelining her career for marriage. The marriage lasted two and a half weeks. Dixon appeared in two more films, uncredited, along with a few TV appearances and by 1958 she was finished with Hollywood.

Ross Elliott did it all, theater, radio, movies and TV, but he may be remembered by most as Sheriff Abbott on the long-running TV western The Virginian. My personal favorite of his roles was as the director on the classic I Love Lucy Vitameatavegamin episode. He was also a member of Orson Welles's Mercury Theatre Players where he had a part in the notorious War of the Worlds broadcast.

Stanley Andrews, who has an uncredited role as warden Lewis, most lasting contribution to the entertainment world was the role of the Old Ranger on the long-running syndicated TV series Death Valley Days. Beginning in 1952, Andrews introduced each episode, doing double duty as commercial pitchman for 20 Mule Team Borax. He also became a goodwill ambassador for the program and its sponsor, showing up at county fairs, supermarket openings and charity telethons. Stanley Andrews continued to portray the Old Ranger until 1963, when the US Borax company decided to alter its corporate image with a younger spokesperson — a 51-year-old "sprout" named Ronald Reagan. Also, for old time radio fans, Andrews Was the radio voice of Daddy Warbucks on Little Orphan Annie.

Paul E. Burns (Old Man Dukes, Telegrapher, uncredited) memorably portrayed the boozy desert rat Ebeneezer Hawkins in Bob Hope's Son of Paleface (1952).
