  L'apparizione ufficiale di Lara Croft Ã¨ stata nel 1996, con il leggendario "Tomb Raider". 
 
Accompagnata delle sue fide pistole gemelle, la ragazza parte per il PerÃ¹, assoldata 
  dalla ricca industriale
Jacqueline Natla, alla ricerca dello Scion, un artefatto che 
  sembrava essere legato alla cittÃ  perduta di
Atlantide. Tra le montagne trova la tomba di Qualopec, 
  colui che si pensava essere uno dei re della cittÃ 
sommersa, e con lui lo Scion.
   Attaccata da Larson, uno degli scagnozzi di Natla, Lara scopre il doppio-gioco
della donna e continua
   la ricerca da sola, una volta capito che quello che aveva tra le mani era solo uno dei
tre pezzi che
   componevano l'artefatto finale. Grazie a dei documenti segreti in possesso di Natla,
   Lara
scopre che il secondo pezzo Ã¨ in Grecia, nel sottosuolo del monastero di St. Francis Folley.
   L'intera
avventura Ã¨ un tira e molla tra Lara e gli uomini di Natla per arrivare al possesso 
  dell'oggetto completo,
che l'antagonista cercava per chissÃ  quale ragione. Messi assieme tutti i pezzi 
  (l'ultimo dei quali nascosto
in Egitto), Lara segue Natla su quella che lei chiama "L'isola perduta", un piccolo 
  appezzamento di terra su cui
la donna ha indetto una spedizione archeologica. Infatti, quest'isola sembrava
   essere l'unico pezzo rimasto
intatto della civiltÃ  di Atlantide, e quindi la porta per accedervi. 
  Natla alla fine si rivela essere proprio
una delle antiche regine di Atlantide, diseredata dagli altri re 
  per aver tentato un colpo di stato contro gli
altri regenti. Ibernata per svariati millenni nella 
  sua buia tomba, solo adesso Natla era riuscita a liberarsi e
a tentare di ricomporre lo Scion, un oggetto
   che in qualche modo le avrebbe potuto dare il potere di iniziare
una "nuova era". Prima che la dea potesse
   perÃ² portare a termine il suo piano, Lara riesce a fermarla,
seppellendola una volta per tutte con l'intera isola
