All Irish know where they were on 26 June 1996 when they learned that crusading journalist Veronica Guerin had been
gunned down on Dublin's Naas Road. The film starts with her assassination and looks back at what brought it on. For more
than 18 months, she'd been digging into and writing about Dublin's drug trade, starting with the youths who were hooked
and working up to the big dealers. As she gets close to the biggest crook, John Gilligan, she's given a warning shot, a
gunshot wound, a beating, and a threat against her young son. Her husband and mother try to dissuade her, as does a key
informant, double-dealing John Traynor. What drives her on - idealism, the chase, fame?

È il 26 giugno 1996: sei colpi di pistola a sangue freddo, esplosi al semaforo di una delle arterie
principali che conducono a Dublino, segnano l’inizio di un nuovo, drammatico capitolo della storia irlandese. In
Irlanda c’è un detto:  come gli americani ricordano esattamente dove fossero l’11 settembre 2001,
così gli irlandesi ricordano con precisione cosa stessero facendo il 26 giugno 1996
Quel giorno Veronica Guerin,
trentasettenne reporter investigativa di punta del Sunday Independent, autorevole domenicale irlandese, fu assassinata.
Il motivo? Le coraggiose e informatissime inchieste che scavavano nel cuore delle gang di spacciatori che infestavano la
capitale irlandese e soggiogavano la sua gioventù. Veronica Guerin rimane oggi uno degli esempi più alti di quel
giornalismo investigativo che nel mondo anglosassone affonda le sue radici. Quello della droga era uno dei risultati di
reportage scottanti che la Guerin aveva scritto negli anni precedenti. Era adorata dai lettori, ostracizzata dai
colleghi per i suoi metodi e inascoltata dal governo, il quale peraltro, una settimana dopo la sua morte, in una
sessione straordinaria approvò una legge anti-droga che contribuì a sconfiggere i trafficanti.
